The most universal belief humans have is luck. If you’re looking for a new theme for your next party, or know somebody who needs a little bit of luck, consider throwing a good luck party.

First of all, you’re going to need to send out invitations. In many Asian cultures, small red envelopes are a sign of luck so make sure to mail your invites in these. Consider making your own invitations. An appropriate phrase to put on the front or at the top would be “Do you feel lucky?” Pennies found heads up are another sign of luck. Put a lucky penny in the envelope with each invitation.

Ask the guest to bring some lucky coins of their own. Get two piggy banks and place one on each side of the door. Make a sign telling them that the money in one pig will go to charity and the other will be a prize for the game. Later in the night, count the money in the pigs and give the one with more to charity.

A simple game to play involves a deck of cards. As guests get their drinks, hand each one a playing card face down to use as a coaster. Remind them that they must keep it face down. The guest that has the highest value card at the end of the night wins a prize.

For another fun game, have your guests pair up and give them each a penny. Let each person have 5 flips and chances to guess. The winner is whichever guest guesses heads or tails correctly the most times. Pair up all the winners and continue the game until you have one winner. They get the other pig full of change.

If your guests are more interested in getting lucky than being lucky, try a game that will get people to mingle. Collect a list of items that people consider to be lucky and have guests ask one another why the object is lucky. If they don’t know, encourage them to make up the best reason they can think of. Some items that are considered lucky are horse shoes, lockets, acorns, three keys together, scarab beetles, 4 leaf clovers, rabbits feet, and feathers.

Serve foods that are thought to bring good luck like dumplings, longevity noodles, black-eyed peas, whole fish, lentils, cornbread and cabbage.

Keep your party’s décor Asian themed with lots of red and gold. Lucky bamboo would make great decorations or centerpieces.
